In a perfect world, people would read this book and understand that it is only a cross section of a population with endless variety and variations. As a mere peek into the minds of the real vampires, this book serves a great purpose. The problem is that this book (like so many books throughout history) might prove misleading. It won’t hoodwink longtime vampires who know what’s going on, but it might very well have a biased sway over the general reading population–and worse, over the readily-influenced “new to vampirism” crowd.

I think there’s going to be a lot of hoopla from folks who are either friends of Michelle’s or who otherwise managed to contribute to this work. What needs to be affirmed is that the vast majority of the vampire community did not participate in the making of this book and are not necessarily represented by this author. Truthfully, the vampire community is dynamic and multi-faceted, and really can’t be presented in book form like this without a great many disclaimers from the author.

There should be a caveat about this somewhere. If there was, it wasn’t strong enough to stick in my mind. Of course I’ll suggest this as reading for real vampires, but personally, I’m sticking that caveat in, underlined, in bold, and with exclamation points.

Once again, Michelle proves how she came to be one of our times leading authorities on the Vampire subculture, by passionatly examining the lives of so many misunderstood inhabitants of the darkness. Few times can a book be judged by its cover, but in this case the work inside matches the impressivness of its jacket.

    Highly recommended!

I am not a Vampire (at least not that I can tell!)

What I am however is a seeker of knowledge. Michelle Belanger and Co have revealed a sub culture that has been in the underground for quite awhile and as a result has an unfair bias attached to it.

This book helped me gain an insight to something that would otherwise have remained hidden.

There are many different types of people in the world, Michelle has gracefully and eloquently revealed yet another faction to this. What I found about this book was simply this: you may or may not be a Vampire (Vampyre). However, after reading this you will no longer be ignorant of what a real Vampire is.

There are many different people and thus views posted in the book, so many of the houses and groups and different types of vampirism are represented here.

Hope this helps in enlightening the mind as well as opening them.

    Happy reading!
