@gerryschristine If he had thought “no, I can’t use Sookie for my revenge, I’ll better just die, and leave it to everybody else to deal with Russell, and Sookie as a blood slave for my worst enemy” I don’t think that would have been the solution to anyone’s problems…
What Eric did had multiple motivations and came from a rational examination of pros and cons.

  • beatricia87 said:

@gerryschristine To say that Eric did it primarily to exact his revenge EVEN IF it meant he had to die to achieve it, you imply that he chose to die for his revenge when he could have lived if he had abandoned it. But that’s not the case, because as I said he was gonna die anyway.
So again if we take the revenge out of the picture, his situation is the same.

  • beatricia87 said:

@gerryschristine So what were Eric’s choices at this point? He could just wait for Russell to kill him, or devise a plan that would at least kill Russell too. But the point is that Eric was gonna die EITHER WAY.
Of course, logically, you would chose to make your death useful and take the enemy down with you, thus saving your dear ones, instead of just dying and leaving everybody in the same danger as before…

  • beatricia87 said:

@gerryschristine I think you are dismissing the complexity of the situation.
Rational reasoning: Eric knew that in a fight he was gonna die at the hands of Russell. he knew Russell would SURELY come for him. He couldn’t think of anything to save himself. He refused to sell out Sookie and didn’t even consider using her until Pam said Russel was after her anyway. and if Eric died, nothing would stop him from getting her.

  • beatricia87 said:

@gerryschristine Not just the good of everyone else, but the good of the person “sacrificed” as well! Sookie wasn’t actually “sacrificed”, anyway, used maybe but not sacrificed, as her death WAS NOT part of he plan, her SAFETY was.
If there was a planned sacrifice it was that of Eric himself.

  • gerryschristine said:

@hootiecat1 I simply think that Sookie is an idiot.

  • gerryschristine said:

@hootiecat1 We will never agree. I’m still of the opinion that Eric wasn’t out there to die for the greater good of everyone else. I think his primary reason for doing what he did was to exact his revenge on Russell even if that meant he had to die in the process.

Sookie was not sacrificed for the greater good – Eric is the one who tried 2 do that. Eric was dyeing with Russell for the greater good of everyone else. Eric/Russell did not drain Sook beyond recovery. Russell because he would want to use her again. Eric because he wanted her to live even if he had to die with Russell to save her.
I agree with you there is no excuse to sacrifice anyone for the greater good of everyone else.
Unless you choose to sacrifice yourself as Eric did

I’ve b/reading your exchange w/trixiedoor. Sook’s reaction 2 what Eric did 2 her (dungeon/drinking) 2 trick Russell in2 the Sun. After she woke up & found out Eric was sacrificing himself she saw his reasoning & couldn’t let him die. By her action of saving Eric understood what he did. bill wanted Eric 2 die, tried 2 stop her. Sookie gave Eric her blood 2 recover. She knew he was trying 2 save them all from Russell. Sook is angry about Eric’s change of mind 2 let Russell live.

  • gerryschristine said:

@trixiedoor But I did. There is no excuse for sacrificing anyone for the greater good of everyone else.

  • gerryschristine said:

@trixiedoor I understand what you are saying. I still think that there was another option. But, for me, Sookie is clearly the victim and Eric and Russell are the victimizers. I agree that they were both hurt. But Sookie was hurt far worse. Although Eric may have been reluctant and felt bad for his actions, he still did what he did.

  • trixiedoor said:

@gerryschristine The reason why he chained her that way was because, for the plan to work, he NEEDED her to believe he was really selling her out to Russell. Of course ideally he should have asked her before, but she had just told him she didn’t trust him and she knew what he wanted blah blah blah, so he probably thought she was likely to NOT agree, or even believe him… so yes, he did take the decision for her, even if it hurt them both, cause he believed IT WAS THE ONLY WAY…

  • trixiedoor said:

@gerryschristine Bill being fast enough to handcuff Eric WAS quite inconsistent, as was him holding down lorena with silver chains… WTF?
But all season long we saw Russell presented as incredibly faster and stronger than everyone else, totally in a league of his own. If Something so easy could have worked don’t you think Pam would have suggested it?
If anything else was possible, I’m sure eric would have given it a try, before going for a plan that involved his own death, don’t you think?

  • trixiedoor said:

@gerryschristine Well, you haven’t addressed the points I have made about the necessity of “using” Sookie for the ultimate good of everyone including her, but I respect your opinion.
I just think the whole thing comes down to this: doing something unpleasant or even “bad” to someone to save them, and lots of others, from something much, much WORSE which will surely happen if you do nothing, can be the only logical option. Because the final good outweights the bad.

  • sexybeastofkonoha said:

@gerryschristine yeah there’s gotta be at least one

  • gerryschristine said:

@sexybeastofkonoha I agree with you on that. But, I’m willing to bet, there are some Vampires, out there, that are older than him.

  • gerryschristine said:

@tone2k9 I wish I was Sookie as well. Stephen, Joe and Alex are the sexiest men on TV.

  • sexybeastofkonoha said:

@gerryschristine simply because someone made russell doesn’t mean that they are still alive. Russell is likely one of the oldest around. i say that, because their seems to be a lot of vampires doing what ever they want, including killing each other, in this show. it’d probably be pretty difficult to last that long in the world of vampires, unless they live under a rock

  • elinheartstristin said:

@gerryschristine he’s just doing everything he can to get the king to be on his side and to trust him. keep your friends close and your enemies closer. he really hates the king for killing his family. and he wants payback.

  • gerryschristine said:

@trixiedoor I don’t believe that was the only way to kill him. Even if it was, that doesn’t justify Eric chaining her in the basement and using her. Didn’t she have the right to choose whether or not she wanted to have that done to her?

  • funboredcool03 said:

@gerryschristine You have a lot of good reasons about everything you have said, but trixiedoor also has a ton of good reasons to. I agree more with trixiedoor to be honest with you. I do badly want to stand up for Eric right now and defend him about everything your saying, but..I could go on and on about everything, so… I just don’t really care to fight anymore. There is just no main reason to.

  • gerryschristine said:

@trixiedoor The show has shown that younger Vampires can outsmart and defeat older Vampires. Pam immobilized Bill with silver spray and Bill managed to overtake Eric and toss him in the cement. Pam could have silver sprayed him allowing Eric enough time to stake him. Someone made Russell. So there are older more powerful vampires so no one is safe. Eric’s quest for vengeance had put alot of people in danger.

  • gerryschristine said:

@trixiedoor I haven’t forgotten that he sent Alcide to help her. But, again, he had an alterior motive. He wanted to find Bill himself, because of the V. So he wasn’t doing that purely out of the kindness of his heart.
