They have also gotten very close throughout that series, including when Elena saved Damon, and when he admitted that he loved her. So I do believe that L.J could make it where Damon and Elena end up together after all.

I don’t mean to burst anyone’s bubble, I really don’t, because I too like the idea of Damon and Elena, but has anybody read the books? I know there is alot different about the books and the show thus far…but Damon and Elena never happen in the books. She is always with Stefan. And as far as major themes the show is right on with the books.
