Issues in Neuroscience: Real Vampires?
!!Vampires!! This video is about real sanguinarian vampires. Not the kind that like to role play, not the kind that have a blood drinking fetish, not people who are experiencing a psychotic delusion. There are people out there who crave blood. My question was first of all, why? Why blood? What causes this? There are a few explanations for it, which I explain in the video. Secondly, do they really crave human blood? Vampires say their craving is specific for human blood. Some vampires say that animal blood is okay, but not as good as human. Some will say that there are blood substitutes, like milk, which are good. The supernatural has eluded scientists because the hypothesis formed are usually not falsifiable. But lucky for us, vampires are not supernatural. So could we apply the scientific method to test some aspects of being a vampire? Particularly those revolving around the Thirst. NOTE: VAMPIRES TAKE BLOOD FROM VOLUNTEERS. They are called donors, and willingly give blood to the vampire. The donor must be screened for blood borne diseases. A lot of people who ask ‘are you a man or woman’ know the gender and are attempting to insult the person they ask. They are basically saying ‘lol, you don’t follow my gender norms so I hate you for it’. That’s probably why @Itstooshort22 got annoyed. Then there are people who see an androgynous person and want to know out of curiosity. If it bothered me, I’d change the way I look to make it less ambiguous.

There are ethnic groups that regularly drink whole animal blood. Perhaps they would work for the blood-drinking normals. But then it’s hardly a random selection. Also, as pointed out, there’ll likely be vampires that are better at noticing fake blood than we are at making it. Maybe all treatment should be administered by feeding tube with real blood in the room for scent purposes. Anyways, yeah, a difficult study to find a proper control for.
Another way to control might be to engineer a fluid that’s as nutritionally close to blood as possible without seeming to actually be blood. It might be, if blood does have some kind of restorative properties, that this substance would help both groups. It could also be that it’s not captured the essence of actual blood, whatever it is that makes blood supposedly work for vampires.
This isn’t an easy thing to try and test. Just as you might expect some placebo in vampires you might also find an analogous/opposite effect in the general population that would likely devalidate the control. You could still make comparisons between the normals that got blood and those that got the fake, but it’ll be very much complicated by psychological elements.
Good vid overall, but I will say that bc I drink blood does not mean i have obessive thoughts, if anything I ironically think about it little as possible, and I don’t get a high from it, but rather if anything it just levels things out persay, placebo effect can happen with anything. Doctors still don’t understand why I don’t vomit or have black stool, Im not shy to come out to doctors..then again I don’t think I am a vampire lol..only thing we have in common is blood drinking, thats it
