Yes, but not what you think. University of British Columbia chemistry professor David Dolphin has a hypothesis about the origin of vampire folklore. He is an expert on porphyrins, which are ring-shaped metal-binding molecules. The best-known porphyrin is heme, which binds iron and, when complexed with the protein hemoglobin, transports oxygen. Porphyria is a family of inherited disorders caused by faulty heme production. People with the cutaneous type of porphyria are acutely sensitive to sunlight, a trait often ascribed to vampires. And there are other possible connections to vampirism, as Dolphin explained in a recent presentation. Dr. Dolphin admits it’s only a theory but drinking blood would have allowed them to absorb more heme, which feeds back to ease up on excess porphyrin production.
In fact, porphyria patients today get heme injections. Porphyrin build-up in teeth can make them appear reddish, possibly like bloody fangs. The disease is even associated with excess hair growth, especially on the forehead, possibly leading to the vampire’s trademark widow’s peak. The aversion to garlic may be explained by the fact that some chemicals in the plant, such as diallyl sulfone, increase the production of porphyrins in the body.

actually a few years ago there was a special done on the travel channel. there are real people like that… no they don’t turn into bats, live in caves, and all the “mythical” things behind vampires, but they do make their teeth into fangs, some do sleep in coffins, wear glasses when they go out, have pale skin, dress like them or wear mostly those colors associated with vampires and do intake other people’s blood. its gross but some do drink it, but now days they inject it into their veins with needles. they get their blood from friend/fam/other ppl that do that. i couldnt believe it until i saw a special done on it on tv. i wish i had a website where u could view it, but it was about 3 yrs ago, so i have no clue how to find it

nah, theres some math you can do to prove it. they bite one guy a week, and that guy becomes a vampire, so there are two. then 4 next week, then 8, 16, etc. before you know it, after 32 weeks the vampire population is around 4 billion, basically the whole world.

Yes they are real. I know this because I am a newly awakened vampire. I have been christian my entire life so I’m not goth or punk. I know a lot of people do not believe in us and that’s great because it keeps us safe. O and probably are not what you are thinking of. If you have any other questions just contact me.

Not in the Dracula sense, no. There are people who do drink animal blood, have their teeth altered into fangs and call themselves vampires.

L A- your answer is awesome…I just had to give you some credit there…I love when people come up with that kind of factoid!!

    good question too btw =-)

When Y! used to have user chatrooms on the messenger, there were a lot of Vampire rooms and clubs …people claimed to be energy vampires, blood vampires, emotion vampires. It was …erm…educational?

  • LittleGreenPixie said:

What LA said. People who claim to be real vampires are really full of BS and just trying to make themselves feel important. Pathetic, really.

  • Common Sense said:

    Nope..
    Just a myth.

    no.
but true blood is a cool show if you like vampire stuff or even if you dont (i personally dont but i like the show.)

Yes. Vampyres are mortal beings, who believe they are immortal whom just feast upon blood, and energy. Vampires can be mortal but are mostly immortal. I am a mortal vampire. You reach the state of Vampire when you have excruciating experience in being a Vampyre. The absurdity of being an immortal vampire with all the black and capes, basically the hollywood look, is absurd and is completely and utterly make believe. Although we DO exist. We started myths upon ourselves, that I do not agree with, to keep our identities hidden, thus another way of proving that we are not vampires. Some humans are smart and understand these. They understand the risks we take every day. The most recent is that we do not exist, I am going around clearing this up for all those who do not believe or do not want to believe this. We are real, we DO exist. If you have any more questions you may contact me.
