Do you think real Vampires could really exist?

14 August 2010 166 views 22 Comments

Do you think they could really exist (maybe not necessarily like the ones in all the hollywood movies, but still exist)? Do you think if they existed they would be all secretive about themselves because they don’t want anyone to know about them? What are your thoughts?

no, unless they are the nice ‘twilight’ vampires that don’t feed on humans. could explain all the dead deer I see on the side of the road

  • Paste said:

yes, they do (i don’t think there are many), same with witches (they’re more open with it, it’s a religion), i don’t think warewolves (although i hear stories, mostly in canada..)

  • Reverend Sarah said:

    Psychic vampires, most likely.
Or Twilight fanatics that think they’re trendy by cutting each other and drinking blood…

    Other than that, nope.

  • Talliwa said:

yes there is already humans who do vapirism (vla vla vla blood) their all gothic and have weird sexual preferences. also there might be people lacking something in their body they can only get from blood.

  • Lexy said:

yup they could exist in Twilight movies

come on now seriously? such a peculiar question, vampires in society? haha yeah only in fictional novels and movies and tv shows.

    talk to Dracula bout it!

  • Whisper In The Dark said:

    no ,it is fictive

  • Megan Bednar said:

If cannibals exist its not so far fetched to think there are some people delusional enough to drink peoples blood. Of course they’d have too keep it a secret. Its not like society would be cool with it.

  • sweetie ? said:

No, I don’t think they exist. Although, vampires are cool (I mean real vampires are cool, not Twilight vampires) but, I think they are only here as entertainment in movies and other stuff like that. I think vampires are total fiction. Kinda like Bigfoot or the loch-ness monster.

  • Kthxbye said:

I know a corpse can’t come back to life. Since that’s required for vampires, I know they don’t exist.

I know nothing can change its own DNA at will to that of a different species. Since that’s required for werewolves, I know they don’t exist.

  • krazzyasswhiteboi said:

Uhhh no vampires dont exist. Think about it, they are supposed to be immortal and have to feed on humans, if they bite a human that human would become a vampire as well. After a little time, EVERYONE would be a vampire.

  • Angelo Johnson said:

yea because you might have seen one but you just dont know it but soon you may find out maybe i could be a vampire maybe any but maybe any of you comments the peaple who commented it might be

i do think they exists, rather i know they do
but full breeds are rare now a days
mostly they are half breeds that are allowed to live with humans and others
half breeds dont need blood to live
    actually most vampires dont
    rather then blood
    they simply need energy
which they can get by just being around us
some full breeds known as the “jeweled” do need blood from time to time
but we cant figure out why
    these vampires are even rarer
    being only 20-30 of them

Well, first tell you a bit about real vampires.
Here come the downvotes, =). I’ll leave links at the bottom for the open-minded, though.

    -No fangs.
-Any color eyes, only with a dark-colored ring around the outside of the eye, as well as a golden ring around the pupil. – Many will describe this as a “lion’s mane.”
    -Rather pale.
    -Not immortal.
    -Photosensitive.
    -Nails –fingernails/toenails– grow more quickly.
    -Hair grows more quickly.
-Typically vampires have moderate to dark brown hair. I have never met one with black or blonde.
-May be preppy, emo, jock, goth, country, rocker, etc. Any stereotype.
-Glassy fingernails, but very hard to break or chip.
-Some have sharper canines, some do not.
-Sleeping in coffins is only if they are…eccentric.
    -Elegant walk about them.
    -Heightened reaction speeds.
    -Heightened Psi abilities.
    -Quiet footsteps.
-Often appear deep in thought, and/or solemn.
-May be anti-social or extremely social. Depends on the personality.
    -Enjoy the night.
    -Tend to be very nocturnal.
-They all have just as much of a reflection as anybody else does.
-Some enjoy human company whilst other see humans merely as food.
-Only about a third belong to Covens.
-All of the ones I know are very knowledgable about history in general. They are not necessarily “history buffs” by any means, but still.
-Seem to know everything about other peoples’ emotions, yet nobody ever knows much about them even though the people “think” that they do.
-May be happy one day, but drained the next day.
    -They are not undead.
-They often keep Donors rather than attacking random people. Vampires do not like STD’s either, you know; they can contract all of them as well.
-Vampires eat human food for nutrition, although tend to revolve more around fruits & vegetables.
-They drink blood, although a half a cup every week or two is plenty enough to keep them healthy.
-Vampires must pay the bills, work –oftentimes day-shifts–, live in a house –unless they like caves….which is rather strange…–, and everything else.
-Vampires do not instantly become sexy or beautiful after their Awakening; however, for some unapparent reason, they do appear to quite attractive to humans — even when they do not appear so to other vampires.
    -People cannot be “Turned.”
    -Increased hearing.
    -Increased sight.
    -Better night-vision.
    -Increased smell.
    -They can smell blood.
-They can smell blood from a person even when it’s not been spilled.
-Vampires are not immortal. Bullets, stakes, fire, water, wind, lightning, and a punch to the nose the right way will all kill them. They will all kill you too, though.
-Vampires can be of any religion. Catholic, Satanic, Pagan, Wiccan, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian, as well as any other ones out there.
-They always seem to know when somebody is and/or is just about to look at them.

This Answer is becoming entirely too long now, so I shall stop. Obviously they were in no particular order, but were put down merely as they came to my mind.

There is evidence that many Vampire and Werewolf stories began w/victims of a genetic disorder called Porphyria. Untreated, it leads to anemia, which in ancient times may have been remediated by drinking blood, human or animal. It causes photosensitivity, which leads them to not be out during the day. It leads to extreme hairiness, the werewolf link.

Someone mentioned Sasquatch. I have given this a lot of thought as well. There is a genetic anomaly that leads to humans that are covered in hair or fur even on the palms of their hands, soles of their feet, & over the whole face. Cross this with a strain of giantism (actual medical term for size so extreme it is hard on the body) in a family that happens to allready live in the woods & seeks privacy.

There are scientific explanations, but do I sometimes wonder if there are immortal, undead bloodsuckers running the society?……maybe, mu-ah-ah-ah-ah

And to the sanguinis society answer-er, y’all are creepy& I’m w/a person that answered above: if you were for real, you would have to keep it a secret, or you would likely be hunted (not that I would wish to do so–your lifestyle is your business as long as you are only feeding on people who consent), so public things like answering on this website or having your own group websites would be a crock

To the answer-er who said we would all end up vamps….you are talking about viral vampirism, which is rare in the the stories and legends. Usually a vamp would have to feed some of his/her blood to a victim to become a sire.

Vampires as in people who grow fangs and bite necks to suck blood are fictional. However there is evidence of people drinking blood. Obviously not with fangs. There was a woman (whose name escapes me) I wanna say she was a queen or something. She used to kill young women and bathe herself in their blood (and drink it) because she felt that it made her look youthful. Whether this is true or not I’m unsure, but regardless, there are a lot of sick people out there who I wouldn’t doubt would drink blood. And obviously in secret because I’m pretty sure society would frown upon that, hah. With that being said they are likely not attractive like the stupid characters in twilight.

Vampires DO NOT exist, and this can be proven with the application of logic, critical thinking skills, and verified scientific and medical data:

    1. Vampires, defined as a humanoid being that MUST consume blood or energy to survive do not exist. Cut and paste time, as it is too much work to type this out over and over and I “recycle” my own answers instead of retyping them so here goes. A brief discussion of the human digestive system and then the probable vampire population given an exponential growth rate should explain why vampires are not possible.

    2. The human body is not designed to process large amounts of blood for nutrition. There is not enough protein, carbohydrates, and fats present in blood to maintain a complex creature such as Homo Sapiens or any theorized offshoot mutations. When a human ingests food it is first broken up into a bolus by chewing, then churned up in the stomach with digestive juices to form a mass called chyme. It then passes through the pylorus into the duodenum, part of the small intestine where it mixes with bile salts and secretions from the pancreas and liver which continue breaking it down on a molecular basis, mostly affecting fats at this point. The broken down nutrients pass through the wall of the intestines and into the bloodstream where they are carried to each cell or stored for later use. Indigestible bulk continues through the intestines, turning a dark brown from the bile. Water is absorbed from this mass in the large intestine depending on the needs of the body – a well-hydrated person will usually have a softer stool than a dehydrated person will. Water also enters the bloodstream, and this is what helps to maintain blood pressure. The pressure tends to balance itself in a healthy person because the bloodstream goes through a formation in the kidney called the Loop of Henle, where the narrowing blood vessel forces excess water and cellular waste such as urea out through the cellular wall into the kidneys, where it is excreted through the ureters into the bladder, and then out of the body via the urethral passageway.

    3. IMPORTANT – A person physically unable to process his own food for nutrition therefore also could not process blood – it’s the same process. Ingested blood does not transmit directly to the veins anyway – it would be chemically broken down by the digestive system.

    4. Theoretical ingestion of blood to supply these nutrients would therefore have to occur at least once a day, and would require the ingestion of the entire blood supply which could not happen as the stomach is far too small to hold that much liquid volume. Hold up your clenched fist – under normal conditions your stomach is about that size. Furthermore, such a mass would be difficult to pass thru the intestines as it has no fibrous bulk, would create an intestinal impaction, causing massive vomiting from the large concentration of iron present, and any “real” vampire would have to eventually expel the waste, which would come out as a black, tarry, smelly goo, just as stool does when blood is present from a upper GI bleed.

    5. These humans that affect the whole “vampiric lifestyle” are NOT vampires. They are simply humans playing their own little game, in their own little fantasy world, usually pandering to their own little sexual fetish, which may or may not actually be sexual. I too, play my own little game, in the SCA, but mine is a game where the deeds that I do are determined by the strength of my arm and sword – I am a warrior, with just as much skill and ability as any warrior of ancient times. The difference is that I am claiming to be something physically possible: a warrior, and I prove it everytime I strap on my armor and walk onto a SCA battlefield. The so-called “vampires” are claiming to be something physically impossible: a walking corpse, and all they prove is that black Victorian clothing, a pair of false fangs, and a little makeup make for a good Halloween costume – it does not make you a vampire

    6. Even if a vampire feeds once a week, and his victim also becomes a vampire, that is exponential growth, with four iterations a month. First iteration: One makes one, total two. Second iteration: Two make two, total four. Third iteration: Four make four, total eight. Fourth iteration: Eight make eight, total sixteen. 16 vampires at the end of one month, 256 at the end of the second month, 4096 by the end of the third month, 65,536 by the end of the fourth month, 1,048,476 at the end of the fifth, and 33,572,832 vampires at the end of half a year! By way of comparison, there are currently approximately 33 million people who have HIV/AIDS and the disease is a world-wide epidemic. I see people every day in the hospital with AIDS, but never has there been one documented case of a vampire attack. Do the math – vampires are a mathematical impossibility.

As for the idea that vampires existed “a long time ago” consider the estimated global population5,000 years ago – using the above mathematical rationale, a single vampire could have converted every human on the globe in less than six months. This falls therefore, under the logic of Occam’s Razor – which states that when you have removed every impossible answer, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth. Since there is no “vampiric plague” swarming the earth, the logical deduction is that they don’t exist.

    7. Point of clarification about “vampire” bats: vampire is simply the name we have given them because they do drink blood, same as a flea, mosquito, leech, or spider. Are these creatures vampires? No. They are living creatures, not legendary monsters. They can subsist on blood because of their smaller size and proportionately larger stomach volume. Drinking blood does not make you a vampire anymore than eating raw meat makes you a werewolf, although it might make you a mosquito.

8.The humans who profess to be vampires are victims of an all-encompassing self induced delusion. They are as human as you or I, regardless of their claims, and if they ingest HIV tainted blood they can most certainly contract the disease, esp. if they have any cuts, sores, or lesions in and or around their mouth. It is a very dangerous delusion to be laboring under. Note that there is absolutely no scientific or medical proof that these people derive any benefit at all from the ingestion of blood, and even worse are the so-called “psychic” vampires, because their delusion is one that they cannot substantiate with any concrete evidence at all.

    9. There is no “vampire” gene. People are not “born” as vampires. When a woman goes to the hospital for prenatal care there are many tests done on mother and child, even while still in the womb, to check for many things, including genetic anomalies that result in deformities and birth defects. If such a gene existed, in today’s world with today’s technology it would have been found – we have already completely sequenced the human genome. It would also have to follow Mendel’s law of dominant/recessive gene theory. Again, the odds on that many “vampires” all escaping the notice of the medical/scientific community are so low as to be almost nonexistent. The idea that there is a global “vampire community” engaging in controlled breeding to keep the “bloodline pure” is delusional in the extreme.

    10. There is no “vampire virus” – as I have already pointed out, HIV is a virus, and look at how fast it has spread – virtually everyone knows someone with the affliction. According to the “vampire websites” there are “thousands” of vampires running around. If that was so then at least one of them has ended up in a hospital for bloodwork when they became pregnant, had a bloodborne infection, was injured in a car wreck, etc, etc, ad nauseum. The anomaly would have been detected and medical science would have isolated it, studied it, applied for research grants on it, published papers on it, and turned it into the talk of the medical and scientific community, as well as making its “discoverers” celebrities and rich beyond their dreams. A virus cannot alter your DNA in such a radical fashion without killing you.

Linking vampires and werewolves to the spirit world is questionable since they are usually portrayed as physical beings, ones that can be felled by a silver bullet, or stopped by a wooden stake through the heart. Hollywood movies tell us that Vampirism and Lycanthropy are somehow linked to ghosts, spirits, or at least the occult and so, “Dracula” and “The Wolfman” show up, along with witches and ghosts, as popular symbols each Halloween.

If we go back in time, though, ghosts or spirits of the dead were believed to have the ability to return as corporeal or carnal beings, still interested in experiencing humanly pleasures. Long ago, it was thought that the dead still ate, could take in nourishment, become intoxicated by alcohol (in fact, they craved it), and could even return to have sexual relations with the living.

In fear, the living left offerings to appease the walking spirits of the dead, as a way to placate them with promises of physical pleasures, such as food, tools, favored animals, slaves or wives, who were sometimes sacrificed to keep the deceased spirit happy or satisfied. If the spirit or ghost was not satisfied, they could visit bad luck upon the living.

We still see elements of carnal ghosts in animistic religions such as Voodoo, where rum, flowers, candles and cigars are left on gravesites or altars for the dead to enjoy, and the Dumb Suppers of the Welsh where an extra plate is left at the table for the returning spirits to eat with and visit relatives. We have mostly outgrown this idea of appeasing the dead with offerings and gifts, but we still leave flowers on graves as well as heavy stones to keep the dead from “walking,” or rising out of the ground, a terrifying concept even in our modern age.

When an idea has that much power over the human mind and imagination, it is not about to go away. Thus, we find our tales of the walking dead in books and movies about vampires. Naively, vampires still have a following with vampire nightclubs, vampire games such as Masquerade, the Gothic music movement, and individuals who truly believe they are vampires, and must partake of human blood, usually to remain “the Undead,” (a word completely made up by author Bram Stoker), and to maintain their, special vampire powers.

This, given the fact that vampires, as we look upon them now, are entirely literary inventions, first appearing in 1812 in John Polidori’s The Vampyre, where the vampire is truly a Byronesque figure, since Polidori based his vampire character on his former employer, the infamous English poet Lord George Gordon Byron. Carmilla, by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu appeared in 1872 and introduced female vampires as sexual beings. In 1897, Irish author Bram Stoker picked up the wand and published his groundbreaking book Dracula. A number of plays and movies followed into the 20th Century, culminating with Anne Rice’s famous novel Interview with the Vampire in 1976 and the literary obsession with vampires continues.

Originally vampire tales can be traced to places like India, Greece, the Middle East, most especially Scythia, that made their way into Eastern Europe, fueled by the Gypsies or Romani peoples migrating out of India, where the vampire saga gained momentum, unfolding its legend like the multi-petals of a blood-red rose. But in the beginning the vampire was little more than a shade or a ghost, or at least an energy thief coming in the guise of a vexing spirit. Usually this ghost was thought to be someone who had recently died, one who missed his family and tried to return by leaving his grave at night. But after one died, the spirit of the deceased could change into something much more malevolent.

Often, the vampire would attack those who were sleeping, feeding upon their vital energies, crushing and paralyzing his victims with supernatural strength. Since the walking dead or the vampire had become a demon of sorts, crucifixes were placed above headboards of beds, and garlic wreaths were put in strategic spots in the home, such as over doorways or in windows to ward off the afflicting fiends. Sleep Paralysis, or the Old Hag Syndrome as well as beliefs in “Elf pressing” and being “Hag ridden” may explain what is really behind ancient tales of vampirism, when its victims woke up tired and depleted of energy while remembering the presence of an evil spirit having visited upon them the night before.

    So, no…they’re not real.

Just as we have today, I do think there is the possibility of people to be so deluded to think that they are vampires in the past. There have been official reports made in European countries of a couple such people. But then one does have to give some sway to the fact that they did not have the technology to explain what was really going on. Besides most were given to beliefs in superstitions.

This would have been one way to cover up or to ignore grave-robbing. As this makes more sense than digging up some body to suck the blood from their cold clammy neck. Besides would not have the blood clotted already?
